More HOA Racism?

It seems like all the weird stuff happens in Vegas.

People in the Spring Valley Homeowners Association are outraged after someone sent out letters, supposedly from the HOA’s law firm asking owners not to rent or sell their homes to Blacks, Orientals, Jews.

Obviously, such a letter wasn’t sent out by an HOA. It’s just an idiot sending out a hate letter meant to provoke.

On the other hand, that’s nearly identical to the verbiage in tens of millions of real estate deeds in HOAs all across America. It’s nearly impossible to get that old language taken out of property records. Our history haunts us, doesn’t it?

He has won more than 70 national and regional awards for Excellence in Journalism, Creative Writing and community involvement. His new book, "Neighbors At War: the Creepy Case Against Your Homeowners Association," is now available for purchase. From scams to outright violence to foreclosures and neighborhood collapses across the country, the reader will find this book enormously compelling and a necessary read for every homeowner. Knowledge is self-defense. No homeowner contemplating life in an HOA should neglect reading this book. No HOA board officer should overlook this examination of the pitfalls in HOA management. And no lawyer representing either side in an HOA dispute should gloss over what homeowners are saying or believing about the lawsuit industry.

    Hi Ward,
I have to say that I wholeheartedly disagree with you about where, or from whom, this hate letter originated. It is really sad to say know a number of many more than one HOA board member, a number of a lot more than one HOA attorney, or other attorney, and a number of a lot more than one HOA homeowner on their own, or maybe even in co-hoots with an HOA board member, HOA attorney, or other attorney who would think nothing of sending out, or passing out a letter like this anonymously! It could even be an employee of the HOA attorney, or someone who has access to HOA attorney letterhead and the HOAs “stamp.” Maybe, this HOA board sends out their own letters on the HOA attorneys letterhead. This would not be the first time I have seen this “arrangement” either. I would suspect an attorney involved with an HOA board with this “arrangement” is billing for every letter too. You may be giving some really abusive, racist, bigoted and criminal HOA boards, some HOA attorneys and possibly other accomplices too much leeway in situations like this Ward!
