Gosh, I was another blogger who missed this story last month. But the total number of organized crime lawyers and contractors pleading guilty in the Nevada HOA racketeering trial now numbers 30. And those dirty 30 will be testifying against the 9.
Don’t ever let a homeowner express doubt when you try to convince him or her that racketeering runs throughout the American HOA movement. The feds have nailed 39 crooks in this organized crime ring in Nevada. Believe me the true number in that state is actually in the thousands. And this web of HOA corruption infects and infests the rest of the states.
I would have made a rotten fiction writer. Just about the time I dreamed up the wildest possible plot, some actual news story would break that wrecked my work of fiction. And Ladies & Gents? It’s happened again and this one’s a whopper. But it’s all true.
This month, the U.S. Attorney is scheduled to go to trial in one of the biggest public corruption cases in history. Thirty crooks have already pleaded guilty. And they’ll be testifying against nine of their former friends in the HOA corruption case. Organized crime involving racketeering, money laundering, mail fraud, election fraud and about fifty other federal charges. There are even some hints about connections with a Mexican drug cartel! The bad guys are police officials, attorneys, politicians, a TV star, well-known public figures.
I’m late getting this one up on the blog, since most of those-in-the-know already read this in the Las Vegas Review-Journal. But for the record, another of the Las Vegas HOA crooks has pleaded guilty. That makes thirty down with at least eight more to go. Ah, and four suspicious ‘suicides.’ And there’s absolutely no word about the judge or the other police officials who were supposedly implicated.
The biggest corruption investigation in the history of Nevada, and one of the largest criminal investigations in the history of the U.S. Attorney’s Office is in danger of collapsing, with four years and millions of dollars of investigative efforts going down the tubes. The ultimate result will be the U.S. Government totally turning its eyes away from one of the biggest and most vicious frauds in American history.

Las Vegas may have more Homeowners Associations than any other metropolitan city. Las Vegas has so many HOA horror stories that writing a blog like this is almost effortless. Home buyers everywhere are beginning to tell their Realtors, “Don’t show me anything in an HOA!”
Now, here comes a major real estate company saying it’s going into the HOA management business! Hard to believe, but Shelter Realty, Inc. says it’s ‘pleased’ to announce that it’s creating a sister company which will provide management services for Homeowners Associations.
