HOAs! I am 100% convinced that is the answer to the mystery (no mystery to me) of the article linked below.Originally created to make neighbors with commonality friendly and social. But the HOA concept failed when the structure was established for neighbor to rule neighbor. Even to the point of being able to fine, lien, and foreclose on their home. With that being allowed to happen the trust is gone and the fear antenna goes up while the boxing gloves sit waiting by the front door to go on.
In multiple ways HOAs are destroying human life!
No.
H.O.A.s were originally created to keep the blacks, the Jews, and the Irish out.
And modern H.O.A. corporations were never created with the home owner in mind.
You should know better than to write something like H.O.A.s were “originally created to make neighbors with commonality friendly and social”.
I think there was some expectation that neighbors in an HOA WOULD band together and ‘protect’ their financial interests by participating in an HOA. The reality of that false expectation was, that you can buy neighborliness just because you live in the same socio-economic site and expect to not want the same ‘sorts’ of people moving in to your area. Prostitution is a relationship where you buy neighborliness too, but it only works because you do get that neighborliness for hour long chunks of time. :-\ Charging a fee for an emotional interaction should have been seen as an unsuccessful business model.
Very interesting article, Nila. Thanks for sharing.
Although the article doesn’t specifically connect the dots to HOAs as a root cause of social transformation, it mentions the fact that neighbors are more concerned with their property values than getting to know their neighbors, among other things.
It is clear that HOAs segregate people by income level and social class. It also insulates HOA owners from owners in the city or county at large. People don’t realize the importance of local government because, in their minds, the HOA IS their local government. It’s a distorted view of reality.
And we can see that this same dymanic affects Canadians and Australians!
I hear you, Robert. I KNOW why they were created, but the creators wanted everybody to believe they were being built for those who enjoyed life in the same way…and with the same social status to live harmoniously next to each other.
The same applies now. If you listen to the sales pitch on the tour it makes you think you’ve just tripped and fallen into a utopia.
Unfortunately, too few of us know the TRUTH about the inner workings of the world of HOAs…but we are working to change that!
