To Counter-Act C.A.I. Disinformation

The Community Associations Institute (CAI) is famous for testifying before state legislatures that it represents all homeowners living in HOAs. Absolute nonsense. In the beginning it probably did. But in the early 1990s a conscious decision was made to turn the organization into a referral group, sending high-dollar referrals in HOA disputes to its member lawyers, property managers and contractors. Under its phony non-profit shield it sent out surveys on how satisfied Americans were with their Homeowners Associations.

Whoa! Any legitimate, honest survey of homeowners living under the HOA yoke should have told a far different story. Finally, some in the anti-HOA movement are releasing studies which appear to be far more legitimate than the pablum being spread by the CAI. It’s hard to get legislators to pay attention to what they see as a non-issue. But surveys like the one linked below tell a more interesting story about homeowner dissatisfaction and abuse.

Also, housing consumer advocate Deborah Goonan was interviewed about this story today by Shu Bartholomew, host of OnTheCommons.net. It really is worth listening to.

Knowledge is self-defense. No homeowner contemplating life in an HOA should neglect reading this book. No HOA board officer should overlook this examination of the pitfalls in HOA management. And no lawyer representing either side in an HOA dispute should gloss over what homeowners are saying or believing about the lawsuit industry.

    The survey is terrific and representative of what is truly going on involving HOA homeowners and the HOA industry. HOA homeowners have been abused, robbed, extorted from and have their lives families, health and finances devastated, or destroyed, while their homes have been stolen by far too many of these abusive syndicates of thieves, thugs and bullies, with their accomplices, some it appears may be in the legal profession, maybe some in the courts, possibly some banksters and those in the insurance industry. Oh, please don’t let me forget other HOA owners; you know, your “neighbors,” who may be involved with the criminal and abusive HOA boards and their accomplices. The truths concerning many of the HOA abuses and how Americans truly feel about HOAs need to be and deserve to be heard. This unbiased and comprehensive survey does just this! It took many dedicated and caring people to design, compile, implement and assist in survey such as this and I want to thank all those who have had a role!

    Before the results of this study were available, I posted this comment to Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf on his Facebook page concerning the HOA homeowner abuses and criminality, etc., in Pennsylvania. I will post it below. I will be happy to send Governor Wolf the results of this survey in support of my request to him via Facebook!

    Governor Tom Wolf
    It’s time to do something different.
    “Great video presentation Governor Tom Wolf and yes, it is time to “do something different,” in Pennsylvania! Let’s start please, with HOA reform and investigating and prosecuting those involved in the HOA crisis in Pennsylvania (HOA: Crisis in America). Those who have been involved in these crimes, legal abuses and injustices, frauds upon the courts, collusion, corruption, selective discrimination, bigotry and property thefts need to be held accountable, regardless of their position, who they are, who they know and even if they have a law license. Start these HOA investigations in Monroe County, PA just like they did in the Las Vegas HOA Scandal, criminality, corruption and property and equity thefts. Show PA HOA homeowners and home buyers you and your administration will not tolerate these crimes and criminality anywhere in Pennsylvania! The victims deserve to be restored and rectified and see the perpetrators of these crimes, who have not only stolen their homes, equity, belongings, and more, they have stolen their lives and futures, too, charged, prosecuted and sentenced…” Thank you Governor Tom Wolf for your time and attention to the HOA crisis and disgrace in Pennsylvania!…”

    A complaint was filed with the IRS Tax Exempt Division against CAI and CAIRF alleging:

    1) the failure to disclose the true relationship between CAIRF (Foundation for Community Association Research whose corporate name is Community Associations Institute Research Foundation. whereby CAI 100% funds CAIRF;
    2) the misrepresentation and biased surveys that support the CAI view that all is happy and members are generally content in HOAs while ignoring the real problems with HOA life and;
    3) the misrepresentation that CAI is an educational organization failing to disclose that it is a business trade group whose obligation is to support the interests of its members, mainly attorneys and managers.

    If anyone has credible documentation to make a case in furtherance of the above you can add to the complaint. Please contact me for more information at George@pvtgov.org.
