Not An HOA, But Just As Idiotic

California is going through one of the worst droughts in its history, the state is massively short of water. But the city of Glendora, a suburb of L.A., is threatening to fine a homeowner whose lawn is ‘too brown.’ The couple admits they scaled back their lawn watering because of state-wide emergency orders to conserve water.

Michael Korte and Laura Whitney have been given 60 days to green up their lawn. If they don’t they’ll get bashed with fines of up to $500.

Gosh, Homeowners Associations all over California have been threatening homeowners with fines bigger than that for brown lawns. Where’s the leadership?

Beiber’s New Babysitter

The Beverly Hills homeowners association where Justin Beiber has a full-time party pad has had it up to its corporate eyebrows with Beiber’s behavior. His parties get out of control, the neighbors are miserable.

But according to TMZ, they’re trying to crack down. The HOA has voted to hire a security company to work during Beiber’s party hours. And they’re going to bill Beiber’s landlord which is the way it should be.

Despite this blogger’s annoyance with the illegal activities of many HOA boards across the country, there’s no reason for people to have to put up with willful illegal activity of a resident. And this HOA is doing what HOAs are supposed to do.

Until Beiber grows up he really should live in a farmhouse way out in the country.

HOA Ballot Tampering In Pennsylvania

Ah, the peaceful Poconos. As I recall, the old ads used to call it, “A place for lovers.” The ad executives could easily begin calling it, “A place for liars.” But who would guess the amount of rank corruption that gives a special kind of identity to that part of the country?

On the HOA front, two board members of the Wild Acres Community Association are currently charged with ballot tampering, forgery and a number of other crimes.

State Police were listening when the board members discussed mishandling 200 ballots to make sure the ‘correct’ board members were elected.

Yes, we can point to the Poconos and Monroe County, PA as hotbeds of corruption. Sadly, this kind of thing goes on everywhere. This coming October a roomful of prominent lawyers and businessmen will go on trial in Nevada for rigging board elections in a number of Homeowners Associations, and then stealing them blind. If you look closely, you’ll see this kind of corruption in every state that allows Homeowners Associations to exist. By my count that’s about 50, although a past Presidential candidate said there were 57.

In any event, when board members and board members’ wives are the only ones allowed to count the ballots in unaudited elections why wouldn’t you think the entire HOA system is profoundly corrupt?

In at least two states, federal and state police agencies are discovering that the homeowners really aren’t just crying “Wolf!”

HOA Maggots In New Jersey

New York hotels are having a huge problem with bedbugs. In a New Jersey Homeowners Association, it’s the maggots who handle property management for the Society Hill Condo Association who are the problem.

Seems a mom who’s seeking a kidney transplant for her adult daughter found herself being attacked by these HOA parasites. This mom had the gall to put a couple of magnetic signs on her car asking for help for her daughter.

Well, folks, advertising signs of any kind are prohibited in many HOAs, even magnetic signs.

I’ve got a great idea. Why not manufacture giant magnetic maggots to place on the doors of each car in the neighborhood? It’s not really advertising. You’re not really advertising any business or cause. It’s just a new way of flipping the bird. Of course, every condo owner in the state will figure out what the giant maggots are all about. And if everybody took part it might even beautify the neighborhood.

What’ll The Tipping Point Be?

Yes, once again here’s the old bloviator talking about an impending crash in the housing market.

Economists have been predicting a mortgage and financial collapse many times greater than the nightmare of 2008-2009. The indicators are there. The national budget is raging out of control. Interest rates are far too low to sustain the banking industry. Investors are losing their shirts betting on the U.S. economy. China now owns a huge percentage of America’s debt. Mortgage companies at some point will have to massively raise the requirements on all new mortgages. If this happens the value of homes, starting with all those in Homeowners Associations, will crash.

In a recent blog I mentioned that this whole cascade of events will start with a minor story, a pebble being dislodged from an already unsteady dam.

The story linked below is more than a loose pebble. And it should be read and absorbed by absolutely every person with even a minor link to the Homeowners Association industry.
