Freakin’ Flag Fury

Yet another Homeowners Association is taking aim at a homeowner who’s flying a patriotic flag. Floridians who fly the American flag have been taken to the cleaners over the years by their HOA for flying Old Glory. Then, Governor Jeb Bush stepped in and signed a bill forcing HOAs to allow flag flying. Reluctantly, the HOAs gave in.

But keep in mind that an HOA management company isn’t making money unless it’s fining homeowners, towing away their cars, liening and suing them for one minor violation or another. Trust me, when HOA management companies have their morning meetings, employees are told, “Now GET out there and write some tickets!!! FIND me some violations!!!

So it’s no surprise when Tom Bagnoli of Palm Coast, Florida started getting fined because right under Old Glory he flies a Wounded Warriors flag. In fact, he’s being fined a hundred bucks a day! Keep in mind that there are flags and flagpoles all over the Grand Haven Homeowners Association. POW/MIA flags, flags representing each of the armed forces, and even some flags for sports teams.

But this HOA is definitely going to do its best to reduce Bagnoli’s net worth.

Homeowners Associations Could Learn From Baboons!

guest blog by Nila Ridings

30 years of studying how baboons were able to change their culture could be the clue to what will change the culture of homeowners associations.  Wouldn’t the results be interesting if Dr. Robert Sapolsky spent three decades studying behaviors in HOAs?

Do we have to wait until the selfish, narcissistic, abusive, bullying, self-serving, and power-hungry board members die off?  Can we legislate these people to respectable conduct or do we have to sit back and watch them self-destruct?  Keeping in mind, they only self-destruct when they run out of our money.

We’ve learned a lot from animals.  Mostly, that they are more than companions.  They guide those without sight.  They alert those who cannot hear.  They comfort those who have been severely traumatized.  They assist soldiers and law enforcement in doing their jobs.  And now, we learn they know more about co-existing together than we do.

As I see it, Sir Michael Marmot is correct when he says, “The conditions in which people live and work are absolutely vital for their health.”  It is no wonder there are so many unhealthy and depressed people living in HOAs.

2013 Neighbors At War Website Numbers

Other homeowners rights advocates are far ahead of this newcomer, and I envy and admire every one of them. I only publish my own numbers to give you increased hope that Americans are indeed waking up to the nationwide scam perpetrated by the Homeowners Association Movement.

Over the past 12 months nearly 50,000 unique visitors have logged onto this website. They’ve visited often enough that they’ve racked up more than 234,000 visits and have read nearly  2.3 million pages of material.

Our message is reaching Americans. Together, you and I are having an impact. So it’s worth the fight.

HOA Humor From A Realtor

guest blog by Nila Ridings

Rarely, do we find someone selling real estate who admits that HOAs are insane. Thankfully, this one broke the mold.

While these Top 10 items are true, it’s just a start.  I can think of at least 90 more.  How about you?

For those who say, “There’s nothing to laugh about in an HOA!”  I agree.  But looking for some humor in your HOA insanity is about the only way to stay sane.

HOA Leaves $60,000 At The Side Of The Road

guest blog by Nila Ridings

It wasn’t cash in a bank bag.  Nope, these crooks just sawed the hoofs off a bronze deer, stole the deer and a dozen maple leaf light covers from the Rockwood Falls community entrance. It’s the second time they’ve done that!

Who would think it’s a good idea to place tens of thousands of dollars worth of art out in the open alongside the road?   If it was to provide a visual indication of the prosperous residents that reside within, it did not serve them well.  However, it did make them a target for thieves.

It’s undecided if the board will be replacing the sculptures.  Really?  Call in some common sense here folks!  The news is broadcasting daily about the theft of copper from air conditioning units at schools, churches, light poles, and more.  And bronze statues have been stolen before around Kansas City. Shall we hope the HOA members will stop the madness of their money going to the scrap-metal yards?

And since this happened in the city where I live, my tax dollars are now being spent to find and arrest the culprits.  So that makes us all losers in the expense of the missing bronze deer.
