“Frickin’ Faggots!”

Dang, I hate using that word. But like the so-called ‘n-word’ it’s bandied about freely in Homeowners Associations. Most HOAs have long-existing deed restrictions which prohibit sales of homes to minorities. Those restrictions, of course, have long been outlawed by the U.S. Supreme Court, but does that stop discrimination? If you think so, you’ve gotta be kidding yourself.

A gay couple in the Monte Sereno Homeowners Association in Palm Springs is being targeted for ‘special’ treatment. One of them, Ken Seeley, is a star on the A&E show, ‘Intervention.’ Once or twice a month he has friends and co-workers over to watch the show. The HOA now says those gatherings are ‘business related’ and home businesses are outlawed by this HOA.

Now, the Monte Sereno board has deactivated Seeley’s transponder to the community gate so he can’t let his friends in.

The arrogance never stops, does it?

More Stupid Sentences in Las Vegas

Egads, I thought white collar organized crime figures averaged at least 18 months in prison. Now I’m the one who looks totally stupid. My deepest apologies to those of you I unintentionally deceived.

But Federal Judge Mahan in Las Vegas keeps handing down kindergarten sentences to the organized crime figures who stole millions and millions of dollars from Las Vegas homeowners. Kindergarten sentences: You know, “Go stand in the corner for ten minutes, Billie. You’re a bad, bad boy!”

Officially, these criminals stole only 7 million dollars in their HOA scam. Ultimately, history will tell you they stole more than 100 million dollars. And the Las Vegas housing market may never recover. In fact, with the recent Nevada Supreme Court decision that HOA liens are super-priority liens which can cancel the original mortgage loan, the lending market is refusing to lend ANY money to a home in a homeowners association. That means thousands, maybe tens of thousands of Nevada homes are sitting empty. They’re unsalable. The ongoing crime is the one committed by this federal judge!

Some of the worst criminals are being sentenced to one year and one day, like this cop:

Others are being sentenced to a few months of home detention. (Gosh, I’m at home taking care of an ill wife. That’s home detention and I didn’t steal anything!)

Meanwhile, the Las Vegas housing market is in a free fall.

HOA Drone Inspections On The Way!

Those who follow this website know that I’ve been predicting this for years: Drones flying over your property taking video of your covenant violations. Now a mainstream HOA promoter is actually whispering about the possibility.

The link below is disguised as a ‘warning’ for HOAs to be cautious as they approach the subject of drone inspections of private property. But the real message is “Our time has come! Get your drones ready.”

If you think your personal privacy is already violated by abusive HOAs, then all I can say is, “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.” Despite what this mainstream HOA booster says in the link below, you gave up your privacy when you bought into your HOA. I first discovered this when I bought a couple of condos in Vail in the late 1980s. When I changed the locks on the doors the HOA board just had the locks drilled and sent me the bill.

In California some HOAs are doing so-called ‘hoarding inspections.’ These are unannounced inspections of the interiors of private homes! One of the items in their list of things you’re not supposed to hoard are books. Shades of Fahrenheit 451?

But my three-year-old predictions about drones being used by HOAs is actually coming true. Video of you and your lover in the backyard hot tub is NOT a violation of privacy. Not in an HOA.

Two Wildly Different Views of HOA Embezzlement

“Embezzlement is so rare in HOAs that it’s almost non-existent.”
(What the HOA industry would have you believe.)

“Another embezzler hits an HOA for nearly a quarter million bucks.”
(What those of us at Neighbors At War would have you believe.)

Oh yeah, I almost forgot!

(link to another one of those thousands of embezzlement cases)

And another….

(link to another embezzlement the HOA industry just doesn’t want you to know about)

And the list goes on and on. HOA life is hazardous to your life savings. Believe it!

Timberlake Management, aka “The Condo Crime Family”

guest blog by Deborah Goonan

Former FL Representative Julio Robaina calls the Timberlake management company run by the Duggers the “Condo Crime Family,” in this special News 10 report by Bob Norman. Take a look at the video of some of these communities that the Duggers manage – clogged storm drains, flooded streets every time it rains, trash all over the place. Exactly all of the blight that HOAs are supposed to prevent, right? Have these HOA property values been enhanced over the years? Not on your life!

Supposedly, Florida has the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR) to oversee condominiums, timeshares, and mobile home parks, to protect homeowners from financial misconduct and abuse. But how many complaints must be filed before Timberlake is shut down for good, and the Dugger family is held accountable? Apparently more than 30! Florida’s DBPR, a state level agency, does very little to protect condo owners.

That may explain why, for two years in a row, the FL Legislature has not even considered a bill that would extend DBPR authority to include oversight of Homeowners Associations. Meanwhile, the state has taken nearly half of the revenue paid by condo owners ($4 per condo unit across FL) and spent it on other services. Another slap in the face to condo owners.

Anyone who owns or resides in Association-governed property in Florida should be outraged. In fact, even if you are lucky enough not to have to live under HOA rule, as a taxpayer, you should still be very concerned about obvious incompetence and corruption that affects the lives of millions of your family members, friends, and neighbors.
