The Idiots in Brighton Lakes HOA!

guest blog by Nila Ridings

Homeowner Carol Dietrick is handicapped but gets around great on her mobility scooter.
Now, her HOA claims her husband’s truck which is equipped with a wheelchair lift is a commercial vehicle! And they’re threatening to fine Carol’s landlord.

WFTV-TV in Central Florida reports that the HOA could be in violation of federal law. Talk about understatements!

Carol…take your camera and get some pix of the rear ends of every board member’s car. Betcha you’ll see lots of commercial logos like…. Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, and maybe even Cadillac. That’s all advertising.

You’ll see stickers for places like Bob’s Buy Here Pay Here, One Minute Motors, or Kick Me To Kissimmee Auto Plaza. Those photos will be proof positive that every board member’s car is a commercial vehicle. See if those same board members wear Tommy Hilfiger shirts or New Balance shoes…. more advertising. And don’t miss the bonus shot of Florida dealer tags on license plates. Again, blatant advertising.

Your lawsuit could be a humdinger!

I’m convinced we need a 12 Step program for HOA board members. They constantly prove they can’t help themselves when it comes to lust for power, and addiction to stupidity.

Infamous Embezzler Gets 30 Days!

Ah, Las Vegas. “How we love ya, How we love ya.”

Get caught drunk driving and you might get a year behind bars. Embezzle a million bucks, cost fifty people their homes and you get 30 days!

Massoud Aaron Yashouafar is known in three states for his enormously fishy real estate deals. And he’s the big cheese behind the Paradise Spa scandal in Las Vegas. Much of the Homeowners Association burned to the ground in 2010, but somehow a million dollars in insurance money found its way to Yashouafar’s pockets instead of the homeowners.

Originally, the burned condos could have been rebuilt. But it took so much time to deal with the ruins that the county finally demolished them. To rub salt in the wounds of the homeless HOA members the county filed liens on the ruined units and sent the owners bills to pay for the demolition job. Ah yes, all those displaced homeowners are still on the hook for monthly dues!

Meanwhile Yashouafar gets thirty days.

Love ya, Las Vegas.

Ya got class!

You ARE Being Spied Upon!

BTW, for you skeptics who think your HOA isn’t capable of spying on your intimate behavior, be assured they can…and will. Homeowners Associations are all about monitoring intimate behavior and micro-managing your life. With that in mind, the story linked below might blow your mind.

It’s about a Texas family who discovered that someone was able to hack into an off-the-shelf baby monitor, eavesdrop on every sound in the house, and even manipulate the camera to take a look at things around the room, AND CALL THE BABY BY NAME!

My friends, baby monitors operate on just a few public radio and TV frequencies. They can be hacked by a school kid. Just YouTube “how to hack a baby monitor” and look at your results!

Finally, take a look at what a TV news reporter did by video hacking an entire neighborhood. She didn’t even have to work hard to do it.

Are Homeowners Rights Advocates Left, Right Or Libertarian?

Well-known anti-socialists have have compared tightly controlled neighborhood governance with being the kind of radical socialism from which they escaped. But does that mean that anti-HOA activists are right-wing, left-wing, or libertarian?

For the life of me I can’t understand how you can tie protection of a homeowner’s rights to any political faction.

Under the U.S. Constitution you have the right to be free from invasive government in your home, your person, your private papers. There are people in every single political faction who don’t want the cops kicking in their doors, even if the cops are wearing HOA armbands.

Sure, you’d like to control the next door nutcase who intentionally damages surrounding property values. But city and county codes do a pretty good job when properly enforced. And to restrict that nutcase’s rights you have to limit some of your own.

The bigger problem is not political beliefs, but rather the fact that agenda-driven people who suddenly discover themselves in a position of power very often have trouble controlling their own tyrannical compulsions. Those power-mad compulsives don’t represent any particular political party.

So those opposing that kind of tyranny aren’t necessarily tied to any political faction.

Those Honest, Honest Lawyers

An expose’ by the Denver Post shows that many Colorado homeowners have been forced to pay legal bills to law firms which had never filed foreclosure lawsuits against their properties.

“Phantom court cases” the Post calls them. Homeowners afraid of losing their homes have been sent legal bills by county public trustees saying that foreclosures could not be stopped unless homeowners forked over the legal fees for these nonexistent lawsuits.

The homeowners always did.

Grift? Graft? Regardless of what it’s called lawyers and law firms are rarely, if ever, sanctioned. They participate in confiscation of private homes yet if they’re caught they face no penalties. Our society has been turned upside down. Shoplift more than $200 in Colorado and you face prison time for a felony. Steal thousands of dollars from distressed homeowners and you can buy your kid a Ferrari.
A strange legal system in this country.
