Cypress Woods vs Wilbur…Battle Rages On!

guest blog by Nila Ridings

It’s been almost two months (7/7/14) since I wrote about Wilbur the pig that provides companionship and comfort to the Halpern children.

Nothing has been settled and the parents and pig are appearing on a radio show to explain their side of the story. They have now received a $1,000 fine but the HOA attorney, Ryan Aboud  knows nothing about that. The property manager and board members aren’t speaking about it…so who has what trick up their sleeve now?

Ward just wrote about heart problems versus neighborhood relations.  We just had two American journalists beheaded on foreign soil by terrorists.  The economy we are hearing is near collapse.  We are approaching the 13th anniversary of the worst attacks on American soil on 9/11/01.

And…Cypress Woods wants to keep battling over a pig???  Please, tell me this is not so!

I have a question for Mr. Ryan Aboud.  The Halperns now have a pro bono attorney helping them.  If you were handling this case pro bono for the HOA would it keep raging on?  Or is it the billable hours that are making Wilbur the most sought after HOA pig?  It’s time to STOP the madness Mr. Aboud.

Fireworks in Carson City, Nevada

This is shameful.

No state in the union has suffered more from HOA abuse than homeowners in Nevada. No homeowners have been financially stripped and laid bare more than people in Nevada. Organized crime in so entrenched in Homeowners Associations in that state that many people in HOAs have lost up to 90 per in value in their homes. But when Organized Crime sees a chance to put OPM (other peoples money) into their pockets, there’s not much that will hold them back.

But ripped-off homeowners in that state were finally able to convince the U.S. Attorney and the FBI to do an investigation, and 39 people including police officials, attorneys, businessmen, political figures, a well-known TV star were indicted and now face felony trials for theft and official corruption. Well, I’ll modify that, a bit. In typical Nevada fashion, certain key suspects began killing themselves in strangely concocted ‘suicides’, and others began to rat out the bigwigs, eight or nine of whom still face trial for their crimes.

Nevada citizens were even able to get a couple of homeowners advocates placed in key positions on the eminently corrupt Nevada Real Estate Division. These homeowners rights advocates tried to get NRED to respect such Constitutional ‘novelties’ as Due Process, a well-recognized Constitutional Right which protects all the people from government abuse.

Tomorrow and Thursday day is when well-reimbursed stooges on the Division of Real Estate tries to crush that right forever. It’s happening in Carson City. And the largest CAI vultures ever spotted by bird watchers are flying the skies over the state capitol right now making sure their paid minions succeed at stifling any sort of free speech or respect for law and order. Nevada is well known for its deep layers of official corruption. By the end of this week you’ll know whether it’ll be business as usual, or whether those struggling under the weight of oppression can reserve for the people a tiny hope for fairness.

Just To Make You Laugh!

Since we seem to have tens of thousands of people who log in here regularly, I try to keep a running chart of adjectives and descriptive words that embattled homeowners use for abusive HOA board members and managers. A frequent one that comes up is ‘rattlesnake’, as in “my board president is as dangerous as a rattlesnake.”

Really, that word comes up a lot in your emails and in news stories about out-of-control HOAs.

So I YouTubed the word and came across a funny video that’s been viral several times over the past few years. As you watch this, just remember that sometimes the Good Guy wins!

We Need Their Email Addresses!

A California Homeowners Association, The Lake of the Pines HOA,  is up in arms because an old war veteran uses his garage to build furniture for military families who can’t afford to buy their own.

He’s been building and donating the furniture for a decade. He makes no profit at all. But his HOA says he’s not allowed to use any part of his property to cut wood, sand, paint, or screw. (Yes, I know I’m overlooking a fun comment about that last line, but I’m resisting the urge).

But Vietnam war veteran Dennis Kocher is facing fines of 100 to 500 bucks if he doesn’t click his boot heels together and salute these lawn Nazis. Thugs, is what they are. And I’ve got so little patience for thugs.

Separate Doors For The Rich & Poor

This story was outrageous when we first heard about it last year. It’s even more hideous now that New York officials have formally approved it. But the builders of luxury condominiums will be allowed to send residents of ‘affordable living’ units through the back door.

I still remember the segregated water fountains in my grade school in Texas. And I frequently asked my parents questions they had trouble answering.

But when the ritzy buildings go up in New York along with the required amount of affordable dwellings, all those ‘po folk’ will have to enter the building through a separate entrance. Can we say, “separate but equal?” That sure has an ugly sound to it.
