There’s no other word to describe it. As the husband of a severely handicapped woman, I seethe with anger whenever I see abuse of the elderly, or abuse of the handicapped.
A lawsuit has just been filed in Las Vegas, Nevada by two handicapped elderly women, both military veterans, who are being hounded out of their HOA because they bought a van to accommodate their respective disabilities.
Board members of the Spanish Steps Lakeside – Park View Estates Homeowners Association have decided the van used by the women is an illegal commercial vehicle despite the fact that it has handicap placards. The women have endured two years of threats, fines, liens and lawsuits.
Is the Americans with Disabilities Act not written in clear enough language for HOA bullies to understand? I guess once you’re elected as a gorilla on the HOA board, your DNA actually undergoes changes. At any rate, the lawsuit linked below is worth reading.

I can’t believe this HOA wants to go there. These homeowners are clearly disabled and that is clearly a personal vehicle. I guess the HOA want to make everyone pay for their stupidity.
Letter to the editor, I assume from the same person

Tragically, this seems like another great opportunity to share my story:

It’s all documented. It’s all true.
All _I_ asked was to be able to _sleep_ in my new house.
Please read how my (former) HOA responded.
My health continues to decline. I truly have … lost everything.
Never again ……
People have to understand that board members do not risk any personal loss. The other homeowners will pay the bills and any settlement. The board members might actually have their hands in the pocket of the lawyer who handles the case for the homeowners association. Nothing to lose they might as well ignore the law. It is a shame that personal jail time could not be part of the persons with disability act. The fear of quality time living with Bubba might be just what the members need to spark the humanity part of the their otherwise black souls.
Agreed, Tom Dee!
And what does the ‘expert’ advice – attorney say to? Wonder how much money he has made so far? What a way to represent the HOA, just let the board discriminate and once again, the owners are the ones who lose and pay for this behavior.
